Cozy Fires and Stormy Days

I used to be good at making fires. It's one of those things I picked up from years of camping with my family and church, but Ralexwin has spoiled me with lighter fluid and I've lost the art. It now takes me forever to get a fire going. I finally got one crackling away this morning and am now waiting for the cozy warmth to fill the room.

My knee has been throbbing all morning and I'm hoping the warmth will help calm it down. It's annoying feeling old at 29. And when my knee hurts I feel old, especially since the pain usually radiates all the way down into my ankle. *sigh*

It has been rainy and cold for two days. The farmers have yet to harvest their corn, something about it being to wet, and I wonder if they will actually get it harvested at all this year. What happens if it stays wet?

I love the Fall... when it is Fall. This year we seem to have skipped right over it and gone into Cold. No brisk, no chill, no sweaters and layers. It's all scarves, hats and coats. Which I suppose I don't mind as long as I have a nice warm fire to sit in front of while I sip hot chocolate and watch the winter creep towards me through the windows.

I wonder how the first settlers of this area (ie Laura Ingalls Wilder) dealt with the winters here-abouts. Did they spend 4 months not quite warm? I guess that's what we do, if you really think about it.

But that's what fires are for. To help the warmth seep into your bones and heat you from the inside out. So that when you do go outside you can breath in the cold air and smile at such an exciting time of year.

Happy birthday to both of the kids! Thanks for sending us the two announcements. It is so fun to see pictures. My kids loved seeing them.

oh, just for kicks, check out this site http://www.diynetwork.com/blog-cabin/index.html and tell me if it reminds you of anything. I found it strangely familiar.

lol thats funny. I don't even think it's that cute either, I guess when you grow up in a place like that you don't become so fond of it.

I'd live in it though if I got it for free. :)
