Spring Break Day 2

The loudest thing I've said so far today: "For heaven's sake, he said 'stop!'"

Vicbowin keeps shouting for me from the other room, and although I have told her that my hollaring back scares the baby, she continues to shout.

Other interesting tidbits of my day. The Mischievite is yet again in a dress. He's also running around shouting 'By the power of Gray-Skull!' while his older brother chases him and growls like a tiger or perhaps a bear... or maybe just a rabid dog.

I read a great poem last night. Vicbowin, bless her little intelligent heart, wasn't to pleased with it and shouted, "MOM!" in the middle of my reading it aloud. She didn't like the content.

Invictus
by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Now I'm off to be a mom. I've got more laundry to do than should be legal and four kids at home to keep occupied for around 12 hours. You know, when you spend the time to write down the job description of a mother it can be quite depressing.

I make a point to post Invictus at least once a year. It is my favorite poem and used to describe my innermost self. I've become a little less hard in recent years so it isn't quite the anthem it used to be for me but I still love it so much. Vicbowin is not alone is disapproving of its content. For many ppl it is just a reminder of the militia mentality that spawned the OKC bombing (and some more recent acts as well) as this poem was Timothy McVeigh's last words before his execution.

Interesting insight. I looked it up because of the movie 'Invictus' about Nelson Mandela (which I have yet to see and really want to).

But I'm not one to be disturbed by the final words of someone else. I mean, it's their life, they can say what they want... why would that affect me. Unless of course they said something like, "The bombs going to go off in 3 days and you're the only one who can save us all."

That might disturb me. :)

You're a very smart woman Claire, has anyone ever told you that. You seem to know all kinds of things... I'm frequently jealous.

Thanks :) I'm one of those people who can remember tons of random things but can't catch on to most stuff people consider "common sense". Frankly, I consider my wealth of knowledge to be a side effect of having no social life and limited human contact outside of my house and the internet. So yeah, don't be jealous! I'd trade a little of the smart to be a little less socially awkward without giving it a second thought.
