How Tall Is Too Tall?

* I've recently been told that my house and crafts are out of control. I am uncertain if this is true or not. I sure hope not.  So I wanted to tell you all that contrary to popular belief I am not in need of a crafting intervention. I just like to use the things I have lying around my house to make my house better. Perhaps my house is out of control, but I would like to think that I have only improved where I could with what I could.

With that disclaimer in mind I wanted to show you what I made last night while Ralexwin enjoyed the evening's studies.

I've seen these things on the internet for a while and I really like the idea.
We mark up our walls pretty good keeping track of our kids growth and yet the thought of leaving those marks behind makes me sad. A growth board seemed like a great way to save the markings.

This was a SUPER easy project... I literally did it in only a few hours. I used a permanent marker, mod-podge and some watered down acrylic paint.

And Ralexwin's courageous use of the circular saw (to cut the board I had in half lengthwise).

And believe it or not... the star was the funnest part. I drew the shape onto a scrap of wood and then used a hand saw to cut it out. It turned out absolutely imperfect! Just the way I wanted it. Mod-podge a little paper on top, sand it and file it and voila!

Now all I need to do is transfer the lines from the wall to the board.

And as for humor... my friend (who graciously wrote the numbers for me--I have horrendous handwriting) asked me why I only went to five feet.

Answer: After that the kids won't care!

Hahaha, I'm so funny. :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this project!!! I bought one of those kind of cheesy ones to keep track of my girls on & this one looks soooo much better. Of course I'd have to actually make it so who knows if that would happen... I think I could though, yeah, I totally think I could! Cute about the 5 foot mark... I wouldn't have to go over that because full grown my girls will probably only be a bit about the 5 foot mark. I'm 5' 1 1/2" and hubby is maybe 5' 8". They don't have much for a chance :)

Myya,

this project was super, super easy. if you have any long pieces of wood lying around it'll do. I honestly just went out to the garage and rummaged around for a bit (and screamed a few times at the spiders) then came out with the piece I was looking for.

it was thicker than I wanted thats why I had to cut it down, but you wouldn't even need to do that.

You can do it!!! (and if you do be sure to post it so I can see)
