Improving a Thrift Store Find: A Tutorial

Image
Here's a little tutorial I've had sitting in my laptop for about 6 months. I found this... whatever... at the thrift store and bought it thinking I'd use it on So You Think You're Crafty. I didn't, but I do use it to hold all of my fly away recipes, even though I'm not sure I like it's current career. The varnish is what keeps the paint from sticking... that's what you want to sand off, unless you want an entirely new look without any hint of shabby, then sand it all down. Try to avoid the cheap spray paint... it's a total waste of your .96 cents. This thing sat on my counter for about a month before I decided to stamp it. Then it sat for another month before I decided to cover it all in paper. In the end I am quite happy with the results.

Altered Shoe Art: Ring Holder Shoe Tutorial

Image
This was my week two craft for So You Think You're Crafty. I placed third that week for this one. I thought you might enjoy finding out how I made it. I tried about a million different decorations before settling on one that didn't drown out my rings. I wanted them to the focal point. This is also why I went with black fabric and not something more vivid. Don't be intimidated by the lack of 101 I'm giving you. It really is a straight forward sort of project. If you know how to use a glue gun without burning yourself you can do this. There are several different ways to make ring tubes that you can find online. One I saw used that colored foam paper stuff that you find in the kids craft section. I thought that might have been easier, but I had scraps o...

Chitty Chitty meets Cannwin

Image
Have you ever seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? I honestly hadn't until I was an adult with children. Now we watch it all the time, and one of the things I've noticed is how cute some of their props and costumes are. So, I'm going to do another set of Theirs Vs. Ours links. Ready? Theirs Ours Links to making your own rompers: Growing Home Online (the one above) Dana-Made-It Intstructables Theirs---(the little girl) Ours Can I just say how much I love smocks? Remewin has just one that I made... I need to make some more. Links: Prudent  Baby (shown here) Madquilter Theirs Ours Links: Jane Avion (shown here) Theirs Ours Link: Brown Paper Packages (shown here) What do you think? Living in a movie sounds good to me. Now, I'm off to quickly clean my house before my play-daters show up. Remember, I'm on vacation through the end of the year, but I'll try to pop and leave some Christmas love for all of you. Happy Holidays!

How To Catch A Fairy

Image
Yes... I noticed the typo. That would be image, not imagine. Now, depending on the philosophy you adhere to, your fairy will do one of several things: -Grant you wishes. -Lose her wings. -Turn into some nasty, angry little thing. -Teach you all  about fairies. -Or die. I think I'll go with wish granting.
