The 'Perks' of Blogging Part 2

4) So now you've got your background up. You've got your photo program and you've found some dang cute digital papers you'd like to use. You're tweaking around with it all as your kids tear the house apart behind you but you've discovered one really, really frustrating thing. Times New Roman is the most boring font ever created. What do you do now?

Two words--Free Fonts! It's the truth. You can find fonts all over the web, kevinandamanda.com (not only do they have fonts, but free digiscrapping stuff) and dafont.com (this website has some unsavory fonts on it so be careful) are two places I've been (the same rules usually apply to fonts as they do with digiscrapping things... personal use only)

But then you find the one font you like, you download it and nothing happens! You can find your answer in here. If you have an option for True Type Fonts (ttf) or Open Type (otf) download both, sometimes one works in one area and not in the other. If you don't have the computer space to download both then learn more than I have. ;)

5) Crowding in my sidebar bugs me. I get annoyed if my sidebar is longer than my post bar. I remedy this by making links to things. I'm sure there's an easier way to do this, but all I do is make a post about something like places I love, then I go down to 'post options' and post it waaaaay back in my blog. Like two months before (that way no one see's it right away). Then I create a link in my sidebar by adding a picture I've made-
(notice that it's not rectangular)

-and linking it to my post. Very easy.

6) Finally! Last but not least is how do you want your blog to look? Do you like the typical minima template? If so, great! you don't need to read any more. If not... I may be able to help.

a) You can make your minima 3 column by following instructions found online. This part of the process can be sorely tedious at first. But I've discovered that if you hit ctl-f a search bar will pop up and you can look for key words on the site you are at (go ahead... try it).

b) If you want a 3 column stretch minima you can also google that phrase and find a tutorial.

c) Remember to save your current html code and become best friends with the preview button. Other than those two things html is very safe and you can play around until you get it to work right. Plus there are all kinds of tutorials to help you on your way. Think of it as a big puzzle.

d) As for how my blog is now. I have a 3 column background on a two column minima, but it doesn't look like that because I made my post area larger! I found the tutorial by googling "minima with a wider post area" (or something like that) and was sent to a very easy how-to.

Was I any help to you guys? Most of these things could have their own full tutorials so it's hard to give you the most information in the least amount of space. Ask me questions if you want and I'll maybe be able to answer some.

And as always, come back and read more.

P.S. If you want to know how to make your very own widget (grab box) go here.

Cannwin-just had to tell you I have been back at these two posts several times now. Today I am feeling fairly serious about acting upon it...Ugh! It gets so technical and I lose my stamina for it. Just wanted to say thank you again for posting all your blog-making wisdom. You are my mentor, Oh Bloggy Oracle. *bows down* No. But seriously. You are.
