Who is the Brother of Jared?

The story of the Brother of Jared can be found in the book of Ether which is in the Book of Mormon. 

During the time of the Tower of Babel and the confounding of languages, there was a man named Jared whose brother was greatly favored of God. When everything becomes chaos and God is scattering the people to the winds Jared begs his brother to go to God and ask that their family be spared. 

Jared's brother does so and is granted, by God, his desires. Through further prayer and supplication Jared's brother and their family are led by God toward a safe haven, or promised land, where they could shelter from the chaos that was around them. 

There's one problem...to get there, they have to cross the ocean.

Jared's brother is given specific instructions on how to create a sea-worthy vessel that they will survive in until they can reach the promised land, but once the ships are built it becomes obvious that there will be no light inside of them.

The brother of Jared goes back to God and asks if He would be so kind as to touch some rocks to make them glow so that they will not be tossed about on the oceans in pitch black.
"4And I know, O Lord, that thou hast all apower, and can do whatsoever thou wilt for the benefit of man; therefore touch these stones, O Lord, with thy bfinger, and prepare them that they may shine forth in darkness; and they shall shine forth unto us in the vessels which we have prepared, that we may have clight while we shall cross the sea."
God grants the brother of Jared this gift and goes on further to bless his faith by allowing the brother of Jared to see His finger while He touches the stones.
"6And it came to pass that when the brother of Jared had said these words, behold, the aLord stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his bfinger. And the cveil was taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared, and he saw the finger of the Lord; and it was as the finger of a man, like unto flesh and blood; and the brother of Jared dfell down before the Lord, for he was struck with efear."
Later revelation given by the Prophet Joseph Smith tells us that the brother of Jared had a doozey of a name--Mahonri Moriancumer--which is rather popular now in Mormon culture.

Altered Shoe Art: Ring Holder Shoe Tutorial

This was my week two craft for So You Think You're Crafty. I placed third that week for this one. I thought you might enjoy finding out how I made it. I tried about a million different decorations before settling on one that didn't drown out my rings. I wanted them to the focal point. This is also why I went with black fabric and not something more vivid. Don't be intimidated by the lack of 101 I'm giving you. It really is a straight forward sort of project. If you know how to use a glue gun without burning yourself you can do this. Just be sure to dust off your imaginative brain space first. :) The one important thing you might be wondering is how I got the pink fabric to stick to the shoe. I really just Mod Podged it on. There are several different ways to make ring tubes that you can find online. One I saw used that colored foam paper stuff that you find in the kids craft section. Use your words, my dear sweet soul, they are inside of you... So find them. Write, you silly girl, write so hard the world will never forget you. But does it matter if the world remembers you?  Age begins to press its hands upon your chest and the need to be remembered seems to increase with the pressure.  Stop. That's not a line of thought you're interested in pursuing.  Live in the now. Does it matter if the world remembers you if your neighbor is going hungry?  Perhaps age is merely pushing you out the door.  Go. Live in the now.
