Today

I've spent the morning glorying in not doing anything for just a little while. But now it's time to get down to work.

Yesterday I took the Irish Twins on a bike ride. We made our way through our small South Dakota town and enjoyed the fantastic Spring day.

We laughed and giggled and Vicbowin biffed it twice.

Then when we got home both of them were notably reserved.

"Mom," they both confided in me later on, "I don't want to move."

Of course of them are really looking forward to being closer to their cousins and for, Vicbowin at least, the opportunity to have a social circle that holds the same values.

But we'll be leaving a part of our heart here in this fantastic, mesmerizing place. When I moved here I never thought for one second that I would love it this much. I imagined a barren grassland with tumble weeds floating across the roads, yet what I found was rolling corn fields as far as the eye can see; friendly neighbors the likes of which I've never experienced; safe streets and parks for my children to grow up without worrying about hurtful people.

I'll definitely miss it here... so will the kids.

Although I think we all agree that we're glad we'll be gone before the mosquito's sprout their fangs.

It's good to know that there are still some Mayberry towns that still exist. They seem to be more scarce these days. Sounds like a nice place to live.

Altered Shoe Art: Ring Holder Shoe Tutorial

This was my week two craft for So You Think You're Crafty. I placed third that week for this one. I thought you might enjoy finding out how I made it.

I tried about a million different decorations before settling on one that didn't drown out my rings. I wanted them to the focal point. This is also why I went with black fabric and not something more vivid.

Don't be intimidated by the lack of 101 I'm giving you. It really is a straight forward sort of project. If you know how to use a glue gun without burning yourself you can do this. Just be sure to dust off your imaginative brain space first. :)

The one important thing you might be wondering is how I got the pink fabric to stick to the shoe. I really just Mod Podged it on.

There are several different ways to make ring tubes that you can find online. One I saw used that colored foam paper stuff that you find in the kids craft section. I thought that might have been easier, but I had scraps of batting lying around so I …

Checking In

I think learning another language is going to be the death of me. I had all these high hopes for getting A's from now on in college and now all I can think is.... B's are good too.

But I can say 'no me gusta pongo salsa en mi comida' which possibly translates into I do not like sauce in my food.

Oh dear....

Getting Back on My Feet

It is finals week for me, and I am extremely excited to be done with it. I overdid myself this semester and took 14 credits. That's five classes.
This may not sound like much (just two over the average) but for a single-mom with four children and a job this was insanity. Especially since two of those classes were English classes and I was forced to write WAY more than I had time for (I had three essays due this week totaling nearly 20 pages of writing and another 3-4 of pure citations).
Also, I moved.
Yep. I moved in with a friend and her partner.
They are the best and gave my children and I a place to stay until I have my feet back under me. The rent is half what I was paying. It's a tight fit for all of us but it's so much better than where the kids and I were at that I couldn't be more grateful.
Next semester I am going to be dropping down to part-time and focusing on working more hours so I can actually afford to live.
I'm also considering going into a technic…
