It's My Birthday!
Today I am 31. I just really am having a hard time with this.
Part of me keeps saying 'I just became a full fledged adult. I'm grown up now.'
The other part of me says, 'Holy freaking cow woman you're old!'
I can't process it.
So, I've been thinking of all the ways I could share my birthday with you. I could list cool things that have happened on this day in history.
I could tell you about the things that my parents remember from then. (Mt. St. Helen's errupted 5 months earlier and only 90 miles from where I was born).
I thought it would be really fun to show you what I looked like during my three decades (alas, digital cameras weren't invented until much later on and I have very few--perhaps zero--digital childhood photos).
So.... what should I do?
Well, I've decided that it would be fun to celebrate by giving you 11 books to read, 10 songs to listen to, and 10 movies to watch--all from various stages of my life. We'll call it Cannwin's Cultural List.

I also wanted to say that I remember watching a movie at a sleepover years right before I was a teenager, and we watched "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" and I wasn't even sure that was the title! I loved that movie.
Are your lists in any particular order, by the way? Or just random?
I'm going to take your book list into consideration for my next one to read.
I've seen Beauty and the Beast, the Princess Bride, and Hope Floats. I've slept through Last of the Mohicans. Hated it, sorry :(
When I come around by Green Day is the only song I recognizee but I'm heard the others.
As for the order in which the lists are... I tried to put them in order from childhood to adulthood. The music list was hard though because I had difficulty winnowing it down to just 10 songs... Most every one of those is from my teen years.
Which is why, my dear Meaghan, that you've never heard of them. They are old! Like me. :)
And if I were to give you one book to read on that list-- start with "West With the Night," it's the incredible memoirs of a woman just before WW2 broke out. She grew up in Africa and became the first person to fly non stop from England to North America. It's excellently (is that a word) written and worth every single minute of your time. :)
